ABSTRACT: When talking of isotropy we have in mind not the Space itself, but the Space in its relation with matter. It is this last one that we term as Universe. In this case the idea of isotropy is related to that of homogeneity of matter, or at least to one of its properties. As there is an opinion that not all the matter in Space is accessible to observations, one finds attractive the idea of reconsidering the definition of isotropy. It turns out that the local perception of this property may be objectively carved in the fundamental properties of the carrier of information about matter in Universe: the light. Mainly the properties of coherence and polarization are to be considered as relevant in this respect. The present essay describes the place where the story shall begin.
