ABSTRACT: The deterministic connection is usually in reverse: Fresnel theory of light logically contains the Huygens’ Principle. Fresnel theory is a consequence of the idea that light is a periodical phenomenon. The classical dynamics snuck up on the theory of light only because the periodic process is described by a second order differential equation, which can be considered as an expression of the second principle of dynamics. Thus the stage was entered by the mechanical concept of frequency with all its contradictory implications. Could we avoid dynamics? Obviously! Here is the path.
