VII. The Major Lesson Offered by Astrology

In a way, Astrology has always lived into what is only a desideratum for Physics. Indeed, Astrology operates not only on the assumption that the physical content of the reference frame acts upon the Man who is in the origin of the reference frame: the Man too can act upon the physical content of the reference frame in order to adjust the direction of his fate.

As a digression helping us to understand the deep nature of the problem, let us notice that if a certain individual cannot by himself act upon his fate, an astrologer can offer the services in the good spirit of supply and demand – we are talking of Man as a social being. It is in this respect that astrologers are labeled (sometimes in strong terms) as dishonest by the advocates of Science. However, we have to be a little more tolerant: here (and not only here) we may say that the Man has not reached the status of living and judging the thing by himself – as an individual – and this fact is the very reason of existence for the society in general. On this ground the astrologers (like doctors and lawyers for instance) are not to blame: everybody is out for a quick dollar! This comes as payment due to rendered services, for which there is no scientific possibility of appraisal. And if there is no scientific possibility to prove that someone is a crook or, even in case he is proved a crook there is always a lawyer to step in and straighten the things, so much the better! It is the money that, as always since the times it has been invented, creates and entertains false values.

Coming back to our problem: what is the situation of Physics here? Nothing illustrates it better than a quotation from Einstein, giving the main reason of the creation of what is considered one of the foremost achievements of the human mind – the General Relativity: “…it is contrary to the mode of thinking in science to conceive of a thing (the space-time continuum) which acts itself, but which cannot be acted upon” (Einstein, 1967). This quotation requires a further explanation: by the beginning of the last century, Physics had achieved the status where it could declare that, indeed, the Space acts upon bodies by determining their motion. One can say that this determination of the motion was its climax as a concept, and still is. It has never been surpassed ever since, although never properly described within the newly created framework. The human spirit felt uneasy here, in that the unilaterally oriented relation is incomplete: there should be a way to describe the very action of a body upon Space! Thus the General Relativity made its entrance into Science. What we are saying now is that the dual action Space – bodily matter stems from the very spirit of Astrology, and could be borrowed at no cost, had the Astrology not have been banned from among the Sciences. Moreover, an important fact remains on top of what Physics already achieved, and this fact can be found nowhere but in Astrology, namely that the Astrology implicitly stresses the importance of the origin of the reference frame. This is its tremendous service to the Science in general, for which reason the Science must come itself halfway in meeting Astrology. For the Astrology operates under assumption that if the origin moves, it moves along with some information from the initial reference frame. It does not just carry the reference frame, but acts upon its content while undergoing its action. In a broad sense the origin transcends between motion to be described with a reference frame and deformation of that reference frame itself. One can say that nowadays the Astrology and Physics do have in common only the geometrical form of the reference frame. From here on their ways diverge: Astrology focuses on what is happening when the physical content of Space acts on the origin of this reference frame, while the Physics focuses on the possible behavior of this physical content as indifferent from the origin of the reference frame – which may well be no more than an abstract geometrical point. None of them, however, seems to care of what happens if the reference frame itself changes independently of motion. As a matter of fact this change loses its significance once the reference frame is geometrically abstracted. The idea of reference frame in Physics, as well as in Astrology – let us stress it once more – seldom imply something material, it has merely a geometrical meaning of a triplet of vectors in a point. Then, again, this was always the way with Positive Sciences: disregard by abstraction and accept by assumptions, whatever seems to be essential, in order to built a technology at any rate. And the assumptions pile up every day! In their name we build Science, and then declare Non - Science whatever does not conform to these assumptions. This positive trend of Science, gives Man a sense of democracy, a sense that the Science is actually technology to be collectively developed, and this is a dangerous mistake. The Astrology could help here, but its misfortune (or, maybe just fortune!) is that it has not found the way to express mathematically such important things as origin of a reference frame – even though admitting that a man is such an origin is a giant leap for the Man – and the deformation of the reference frame, to say nothing about their possible relationship. In today’s status of Astrology, when it aspires to technological performances just like any other Positive Science while denying having anything to do with Science in general, we just do not see anything fit to fulfill such a program. There is not even a trend of indication towards such an endeavor, either from astrological or physical points of view, to say nothing of any other accepted Science. This is why we undertake the task!
