I. Introduction

When speaking of Astrology, usually it is first and foremost opposed, within the limits of social perception, to all Positive Sciences. However, as the Positive Sciences are all nurtured in a way or another by Physics – one always can hear of “physical basis of Engineering”, “physical basis of Astronomy”, etc – we feel specially compelled in opposing Astrology to Physics, in order to legitimately offer a “physical basis of Astrology”. The very aim of such attempt may sound strange to say the least, so let us introduce the subject by analyzing some contradistinctions and common trends of Astrology and Physics (or Positive Sciences in the largest acceptance). Information about Astrology is abundant in the WWW, and whoever wants to have an overview of the situation can simply use any search tool. This is the way we extracted the basics. Indeed, we find it appropriate to start with the basic instrument of Astrology. This cannot be done more appropriately than quoting an astrologer. From among the many astrologers in the WWW, who had the courtesy to offer some explanations on their job, we chose one who describes the basis of a software package because, in our opinion, this very fact would need a serious perception of Positive Science. Here is a description of the basics of a natal chart:

“… In simple terms the local space chart is a map of the 360 degrees of the horizon surrounding an event such as birth, with the various planets’ positions plotted on it. The map represents the full circles or plane of the horizon, rather than only the two points at which it intersects the ecliptic (known to astrologers as the Ascendant and Descendant). The wheel of this chart then describes the horizon of a place, much as turning around on one spot we might look toward the East, South, West, and North. In this coordinate system, the fundamental plane to which all else is referred is, then, the horizon of the observer; and the positions of the various planets as they appear from this location are projected onto the horizon using the coordinates, azimuth and altitude. Azimuth is this system’s equivalent of the zodiac longitude and is measured, for our purposes, from the East direction, thru the North and on around in a counter-clockwise direction – in the same way that we measure the traditional signs and houses. To the point where we understand it, Astrology offers to a man guidance in life based on alleged facts beyond ordinary human senses. The common belief is that one’s life is always under the influence of the cosmic environment. In order to do predictions, an astrologer must have at his/her disposal the cosmic situation at the moment of birth of the individual – a natal chart, as above. Charts like this can be complicated to different degrees, but these complications do not go, scientifically speaking, beyond the Euclidean Geometry. The true astrological argument, however, claims always to go far beyond Geometry, any kind of Geometry for that matter.
